Taipei

Taiwan is where East meets wild. Think night markets that never sleep, bubble tea on every corner, neon-lit streets buzzing with scooters, and hikes that'll leave your jaw on the forest floor. It’s techy, tropical, and rebellious at heart.

NTU

🇹🇼 Exchange in Taiwan, Fall 2024

🏠 Housing

Booked an Airbnb with 3 roommates for about €628/month. The place was super close to NTU, near a night market, and felt really safe. Not much storage, but it was recently renovated. Overall, solid spot if you're quick to book.

🚗 Getting to Campus

Lived in Daan District, which was clutch. 20 minutes walking, 10 minutes biking. Easy peasy.

✈️ Travel Life

First trip was to Kenting and a little island called Xiaoliuqiu. Went diving with turtles. Literally unreal.

🎉 Social Life

Daan is full of exchange students, so making friends was natural. Bars around, people out every night.

📚 Classes

Took business and marketing classes with no final exams. Super easy to pass and still felt useful.

🦙 Other

Finding housing wasn’t easy — not a lot of good spots in budget and many places were either too far or outdated.

Fu Jen Catholic University

🇹🇼 Exchange in Taiwan, Spring 2024

🏠 Housing

Found a place in Guting through a French landlord. About €500/month, close to everything — shops, restaurants, metro. The area was noisy and the apartment had no shared spaces, but the location made up for it.

🚗 Getting to Campus

It took about 45 minutes by metro to get to Fu Jen. Direct line, super safe ride. Guting is well-connected.

✈️ Travel Life

Hit up the Philippines, Thailand, Korea, Japan, and local islands. Everything is close and flights are cheap if you plan ahead.

🎉 Social Life

Hung out around Zhongshan District. Triangle Club was the go-to — packed with other exchange students.

📚 Classes

Loved the HR and Family Business courses. The profs really cared about exchange students and kept things interactive.

🦙 Other

Taipei is easy to navigate and super safe. Clubs are free if you go early. Fu Jen even offers a scholarship if you take Chinese classes.

🇹🇼 Exchange in Taiwan, Fall 2023

🏠 Housing

Stayed in an Airbnb near NTU with 3 others for €600/month. The place was right in Daan District, next to restaurants, banks, night markets. Really central, metro was 10 minutes away, super safe zone.

🚗 Getting to Campus

10-minute bike ride, 15 minutes walking. Chill commute and everything around felt safe and convenient.

✈️ Travel Life

Did trips to Vietnam, Seoul, Osaka, Thailand, and Hong Kong. All easy to access and pretty cheap if you plan it right.

🎉 Social Life

AI Club was the spot. Free entry and open bar on Thursdays. Always packed with exchange students.

📚 Classes

Global marketing and brand strategy were super easy. Financial management was more serious but still manageable.

🦙 Other

Biggest struggle was finding a nice apartment for 4 people that wasn’t overpriced. A lot of landlords ghost after initial messages.

Yuan Ze University

🇹🇼 Exchange in Taiwan, Fall 2023

🏠 Housing

Rented a place for €380/month near Taipei 101. Only had one roommate. The area felt insanely safe and was close to night markets, bars, and free-entry clubs. Long commute to the uni though — 1.5 hours each way.

🚗 Getting to Campus

Not gonna lie, the commute was rough — 3 hours round trip. Worth it for the city vibes, but definitely not ideal.

✈️ Travel Life

Hit up Japan, Seoul, Philippines, and southern Taiwan. Tickets were cheap from Taipei and the adventures were worth every cent.

🎉 Social Life

Taipei 101 area and Maji Square were the main party zones. Night markets were also great to meet locals while eating cheap and tasty food.

📚 Classes

All classes were kinda mid, but he managed to fit everything between Monday afternoon and Wednesday night. Long weekends, baby.

🦙 Other

Taiwan beats Japan and Korea in terms of exchange experience. Safe, affordable, and more chill. Zero regrets.

Soochow University

🇹🇼 Exchange in Taiwan, Spring 2024

🏠 Housing

Used a local agency called UR House Realty. Paid €650 for a spot near Yuanshan Station. Close to Maji Square, tons of bars, and always full of students. Apartment was modern, safe, and surrounded by green spaces.

🚗 Getting to Campus

About 30 minutes to Soochow. Not too bad, especially with the metro. Living near a metro station was a game changer.

✈️ Travel Life

Took trips all over Taiwan: Hualien, Liuqiu Island, Tainan. Also considered the Philippines and Thailand. Book flights early — around €200 round trip.

🎉 Social Life

Maji Square was the spot. Multiple bars, lots of international students. The energy was insane during the week, not just weekends.

📚 Classes

Didn’t mention specifics, but said there wasn’t a ton of course variety. Best tip: pack your schedule into fewer days and enjoy long weekends.

🦙 Other

Avoid apartment hunting during Chinese New Year. Language barrier is real — nobody speaks English, short-term contracts are rare, and you gotta hustle hard to find a good place.
